At the 16th edition of Trend Selection New York, for the presentation of the Winter 2009/10 collections, 43 companies, including tanneries and textiles and synthetics manufacturers exhibited.
There were more than 600 visitors, with a growth of 20% compared to the previous edition in February. Attendance at the exhibition was good, in particular on the first day, with many of the stands crowded.
The traditional audio-visual presentations about our tendencies were appreciated as was the trend book that was purposely prepared for the American market.
As usual attendance belonged mainly to the handbags, leather goods and footwear sector. Less were the visitors from the leatherwear sector. Apart from the New York area a growth in the number of visitors was also registered from other American provinces.
The problem due to the weak dollar persists, even if the recovery of the past few week brings new prospects and offers a little more hope.
The many innovations for Winter 2009/10 presented in the stands were very well received by the visitors. The optical effects, games and fusion of colour and idea of movement for a dynamic leather at the very limits of the three dimensions were appreciated by all.
In decline dull patent leathers and laminates, just as they were conceived in the previous editions; interest remains however if they are printed or tumbled. Among the leathers to be mentioned is the noteworthy presence of nubucks, small-sized leathers, many shiny vegetable tans but also the opaque ones and those of a natural colour. Highlighted were prints, in particular croc and python. As for colour, burgundies and earthy colours were particularly popular, especially the warm tones of brown, the variety of shades of purple and the violet and greyish blues and some reds.
For textiles and synthetics elaborated underglass, wools, felts of varying types, jacquards mainly of an upholstery type, flocking, Anglo-Saxon style male textiles, unusual embossing. Embroidery with sequins even on the more technical materials. Quilting in medium and tiny sizes. Many prints and mini-prints, in particular croc.
The next edition of Trend Selection New York, for Summer 2010, will be held on 3-4 February 2009 during the very on the same premises.
